It is almost time for Super Bowl LIV and this years big game is between the Chiefs and 49ers in Miami, FL. The top seeded 49ers made it through the NFC side of things fairly easily. On the other hand, the Chiefs Super Bowl run was a little more dramatic.

The Super Bowl is the craziest game for betting because we can literally bet on EVERYTHING. Ranging from the National Anthem length to what OTHER PEOPLE on betting on (yes, you can bet on what other people will bet) the Super Bowl has props out the wazoo. But, for our sanity, we’re keeping it simple with this betting preview. Here’s what I like:

  • Chiefs -1
  • Over 54 (-109)
  • Chiefs Moneyline (-120)
  • Emmanuel Sanders OVER 3.5 receptions (-107)
  • Blake Bell OVER 4.5 receiving yards (-106)
  • PLAY OF THE DAY = Mecole Hardman OVER 1.5 receptions (+102)

We have a clean injury report as both teams should be at full strength for the big game!

49ers Offense vs. Chiefs Defense

The 49ers, behind Raheem Mostert, have been dominating the ground game throughout the playoffs. For Super Bowl LIV, they’re going to have to continue to feed Mostert. Even with Tevin Coleman returning from a shoulder injury, Mostert is the go-to guy. But, let’s not overlook the impact that Coleman will have on this game. Arguably, he is a much better receiver out of the backfield than Mostert. This of course is important because of the high-scoring total I have projected for this game.

Jimmy Garoppolo might be the biggest liability for this 49ers squad. If the 49ers can simply ground-and-pound their way down the field like they have this postseason, then it’s not an issue. But, they haven’t had to play an offensive powerhouse like the Chiefs. So, I suspect Jimmy G will have to throw and the likes of George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Emmanuel Sanders will be busy.

The Chiefs defense has been good against the run this postseason, but that’s because teams have had to throw in order to catch up. I feel that the 49ers have a strong chance of beating the Chiefs on the ground. Through the air may be a different story on the other hand. The Chiefs have playmakers on the back end that will rip Jimmy G apart if he is forced to throw deep regularly.

Chiefs Offense vs. 49ers Defense

The Chiefs are led by the betting favorite to win Super Bowl LIV MVP, Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes may be the (2nd) most electrifying QB in the NFL in the modern era. Flanked by some of the fastest guys in the NFL, Mahomes and the Chiefs are doing everything the 2000’s Raiders wanted to do. By utilizing a cannon armed QB and speed demons all around, the Chiefs are capable of scoring in bunches at an incredible pace.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are the primary options for Mahomes and the each have vastly different skill sets. Hill is the fastest guy in the league that regularly burns secondaries on various routes. Kelce is obviously not that same type of athlete. He will beat defenses will excellent route running over the middle of the field however. The Chiefs are not just a 3-man operation though, as Damian Williams, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman are perfectly capable speedsters that break a play wide open at a moments notice.

The ultimate battle is the 49ers defense versus this Chiefs offense. The 49ers are allowing 290.5 yards per game and only 15 points per game this postseason. The ‘Niners defense is loaded across the board, but somehow even more so in the front-7. The pass-rush for the 49ers are going to be in Mahomes face all game long and it’s up to the former MVP to stand in there and deliver.

Chiefs: 33

49ers: 24

Guaranteed Touchdown Scorer: Travis Kelce

Dart Throw Touchdown Scorer: Blake Bell

Best Fantasy QB: Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs play through the passing game as opposed to the 49ers.

Better Fantasy RB: Damian Williams, I like Williams as a pivot off of the popular Raheem Mostert play.

Better Fantasy WR: Tyreek Hill, the best receiver on the field has the toughest matchup but I still believe gets the job done.

Best Fantasy TE: Travis Kelce AND George Kittle, play both of these men. You cannot go wrong with either, but if you pivot off of both, it will burn you.

Better Fantasy D/ST: Chiefs, forcing Jimmy G to throw will give the Chiefs the advantage.
