Are you ready for some Wednesday night college basketball action? Well, you better be because we have another matchup of ranked teams tonight! Taking center stage tonight is the #10 Villanova Wildcats and #16 Ohio State Buckeyes.
When and Where
#16 Ohio State will host #10 Villanova in the Value City Arena at 7:00 PM EST and will air on FS1.
Why We’re Watching: #10 Villanova at #16 Ohio State
Villanova has only played 1 game so far this season so their “averages” are noticeably higher than Ohio States’ across the board. Both teams have 4 players averaging double-digit points per game, but, the Villanova squad has players with averages in the 20s. This is why we see that Villanova is averaging 27-more points per game than Ohio State.
However, Ohio State is currently the betting favorite (-115) despite the Villanova dominate shown in their lone game earlier in the season. Lead by the freshman and #16 overall recruit in the nation, Jeremiah Robinson Earl, the Wildcats have put up 97 points against Army last week. But, it is not only a one-man show for the Wildcats, as Saddiq Bey has also emerged as a legitimate threat. We shouldn’t overlook Cole Swider either, for what it’s worth, as the 3rd of 3 big-men is also pushing the 20-point scoring mark.
Do we have the next Brook and Robin Lopez on our hands here at Ohio State? Only time will tell as Kaleb Wesson and older brother Andre Wesson look to continue their dominance from high school into the NCAA. Kaleb, the more highly touted of the duo, is leading the Buckeyes in rebounding and assists per game while also scoring 10.5 points a game. Leading scorer and “veteran” of the squad, Kyle Young, is going to have his hands full tonight as he attempts to limit the Wildcats youth attack. Speaking of youth, #34 overall recruit in the nation and current Buckeyes point guard DJ Carton will need to cut back on the turnovers while also improving his abysmal 40% shooting percentage from the charity stripe.
#10 Villanova: 69
#16 Ohio State: 65
Leading Scorer: Jeremiah Robinson Earl
