The top-3 has arrived! The season is right around the corner and the next 3 players in our countdown are the favorites to win the MVP award this season. Coming in at #3 on our countdown, some people refer to him as the King… or even the G.O.A.T.
#3 LeBron James
LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. Most people would agree that the best player’s conversation is between Michael Jordan and LeBron. I could sit here and list LeBron’s stats but then we would be here all day. So let’s just use last season to determine the likelihood that LeBron takes home his 5th MVP award. LeBron only played in 55 games this past season because of injuries and the fact that his Lakers team was not in contention. Even in limited action, LeBron averaged over 27 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds. Entering his 17th NBA season, LeBron has not lost a step. His name is still synonymous with the sport to the extent that if ask a non-basketball fan to name a player, they will certainly say LeBron. In his career, LeBron has earned the following: Rookie of the Year, 2007-2008 Scoring Champion, 6x All-Defensive player, 15x All-Star, 15x All-NBA, 3x Champion, 3x Finals MVP, and 4x MVP. Even at 34 years old, LeBron is still able to score over 50(!) points in games as evidenced by last year. LeBron was 8th in the NBA in PER last season with a rate of 25.64 (league average is 15.00) so is still the elite talent that he always has been. Don’t forget that the MVP voting is essentially a popularity contest with a flavoring of stats… LeBron will always be in consideration with that in mind. With an improved team around him this year, mainly fellow MVP candidate Anthony Davis, LeBron has a chance to not only win another MVP but potentially another Finals MVP.
LeBron is currently at +650 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think LeBron will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
