Countdown to NBA 2019: Most Valuable Player Candidates, #4

And we’re back! The countdown is nearly over which means… the NBA season is about to start! Sitting at #4 of potential MVP candidates, we go from The Beard to The Brow.

#4 Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis, when he plays, is one of the premier talents in the NBA. Davis is one of the few NBA players that can truly do everything on the court. The former #1 overall pick back in 2012 has developed into arguably the best player in the NBA. Had it not been for a trade demand during the season, Davis could have led the league in double-doubles and blocks. Davis is a 6x All-Star, 3x All NBA player, 3x All-Defensive player, and 3x Block Champion. When opponents enter the painted area, they need to prepare to have their shot rejected out of the building! If Davis is not blocking shots, he’s lighting up the scoreboard on a nightly basis. Last season, Davis scored 48(!) points in a game but in previous years he’s scored as much as 59(!) points. Davis ranks in the top-20 all-time in terms of averaged points scored per game. Only 3 active players, Kobe, and Melo average more points… the others are members of the Hall of Fame. That is an elite company to be a part of, and the best that I have ever seen. In his limited minutes last season, Davis was still one of the very best players in all of basketball. Davis had a PER of 30.32 (league average is 15.00), a rate that placed him 3rd overall in the entire NBA. A full workload for Davis could mean unimaginable statistics. There is just one problem though… Davis is no longer the only option on a bad Pelicans team. Davis now plays in L.A. for the Lakers alongside LeBron James.

Davis is currently at +700 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Davis will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
