Countdown to NBA 2019: Most Valuable Player Candidates, #7

Welcome to the block party—err I mean, our countdown to NBA regular season action! In today’s edition, I would like to remind everyone to #TrustTheProcess.

#7 Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid is a monster on the basketball court. The only downside for Embiid is he struggles to remain healthy enough to play more than 64 games in a season. But when he does play, Embiid is a near-unstoppable force in the paint. Last season, Embiid improved all of his stat averages across the board. A career year saw Embiid earn All-NBA and All-Star honors for the 2nd consecutive season, despite him missing 18 games due to rest/injury. Similar to Nikola Jokic, Embiid can go and get a 20-20 game at will. Embiid, when he plays, is one of the best scorers in basketball solely because he has such a size advantage in the paint. For someone with such a dominating presence, Embiid is not the best defender compared to his peers. But, his talents on the offensive end of court far outweigh the negatives on the other end. This can be seen with his incredible PER of 26.21 (league average is 15.00), which placed him in 6th place last season in the entire NBA. Do we #TrustTheProcess this season and witness Embiid win his first MVP award?

Embiid is currently at +1000 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Embiid will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
