Countdown to NBA 2019: Most Valuable Player Candidates, #9

We are so close to the start of the NBA regular season! The potential MVP this time around? The Joker.

#9 Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic is just getting started when it comes to reaching his NBA potential. Jokic is a triple-double threat each and every night that he takes the floor. As one of, if not the best, big-man passers in the league Jokic averaged over 7 assists a game last season. In his still young 4-year career, Jokic was named to both the All-NBA team and the All-Star team for the first of what will be many times over his career. For someone so talented, it still comes as a shock to most people when they find out that Jokic was drafted 41st overall out of 60 total players back in 2014. It’s hard to fathom that teams believed that some of these other 40 men would be better than Jokic. Of course, hindsight is 20-20. Speaking of 20-20, Jokic had 2 such games last season with points and rebounds! Jokic had a career year this past season and only looks to get better as he evolves his game and his Denver Nuggets teammates improve around him. With multiple 40-point career games to his credit, Jokic is one of the more prolific scorers in the NBA today. Need even more proof that the Joker is legit? Jokic was tied for 4th in the entire NBA in PER last season with a rating of 26.38 (league average is 15.00). This Nuggets team, led by Jokic, is supposed to be one of the top teams in all of basketball this year. That alone should help his odds of winning the MVP.

Jokic is currently at +1500 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Jokic will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
