An argument can be made that this MVP candidate should be in the top 10, but alas, he currently sits at #11 on our potential MVP candidates countdown to the NBA season. This entrant on the countdown thrives in the 4th quarter of games and isn’t afraid of pulling up from the logo.

#11 Damian Lillard

Point Guard, Portland Trail Blazers

Damian Lillard is largely overlooked when it comes to the best players in the NBA because he isn’t the most exuberant of personalities. That being said, Lillard is one of the few professional athletes that is good at being a rapper. Back to basketball court now, Lillard entered the league in 2012 has been the Trail Blazers star ever since. Lillard has been the Rookie of the Year, a 4x All-NBA player, and a 4x All-Star throughout his 7-year career. The 4th quarter of Trail Blazer games is accurately named “Dame Time” because this is when Lillard truly becomes otherworldly. Lillard has hit a surplus of game-winning or game-deciding shots over his career but none were bigger than this shot during last year’s playoffs. The ensuing meme of Lillard’s unfazed face during the team celebration summarizes the type of player Lillard is on the court. He’s going to play his style of game and you have to try to stop him… good luck. Lillard is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball and has multiple 50(!) point games to back it up. This past season, Lillard had a PER of 23.78 (league average is 15.00), which placed him at #17 overall this past season. As far as consistency goes in the NBA, few are better than “Logo Lillard” and he is a viable underdog to win this season’s MVP award.

Lillard is currently at +2800 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Lillard will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
