Countdown to NBA 2019: Most Valuable Player Candidates, #12

Dun, dun, dun… another day bites the dust! And another potential MVP down as we continue our countdown to the NBA regular season. This time around, we return to a big man. When this man gets buckets, we collectively refer to it is as yarn.

#12 Karl-Anthony Towns

Center, Minnesota Timberwolves

Karl-Anthony Towns, or KAT for short, is one of the most elite front-court players in all of basketball. The only criticism of his game is that KAT is not the strongest defender of the paint. But KAT more than makes up for it on the glass and on the offensive side of the court. In his brief 4-year career, KAT has corralled 20+ rebounds in a single game, 14 times! Combine that with the fact that KAT has gotten his yarn of 40+ points 7(!) times so far in his career, KAT is an absolute force. Over his 4-year career, KAT has won the Rookie of the Year, been a 2x All-Star, and has made an All-NBA team. Not to mention that KAT has been the Timberwolves starting Center since day 1 and has played in all but 5 of 328 games. That is a near purrrrrfect record.

What? What’s wrong? Stop shaking your head at me…

Anyway, KAT is one of the very best players to step on the court each and every night. This past season, KAT had a PER of 26.38 (league average is 15.00), which was good enough to tie him for the 4th best PER with Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic. Despite his phenomenal play, KATs team is not winning many games. That will have to change if he wants to improve his MVP odds.

KAT is currently at +3000 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think KAT will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
