Countdown to NBA 2019: Most Valuable Player Candidates, #13

We are less than 2 weeks away from the start of the NBA regular season! Next up on our countdown is a man that changed teams this offseason and is known to have the best handles in the entire NBA.

#13 Kyrie Irving

Point Guard, Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving has the best signature basketball shoes. Okay, I may be a little bias but his shoes are so comfortable! Irving has so many different variations of his shoes and they’re all straight fire. Fine, fine, fine we’ll talk about his play on the court. Which, by the way, is also fire. The former #1 overall pick and Rookie of the Year player gets a lot of slack for not being able to carry a team by himself. He “needed” LeBron James while they were together in Cleveland and once Kyrie went to Boston, his teams couldn’t win the big games. Now a member of Brooklyn, Kyrie will have to carry the Nets for at least 1 year as fellow superstar free-agent signee, Kevin Durant, will miss this upcoming season due to injury. In his 8-year career, Kyrie is a 6x All-Star, 1x All-Star game MVP, 2x All-NBA player, aforementioned Rookie of the Year, and 1x NBA Champion. Kyrie has accomplished a lot over his career and last season was arguably his best as a pro. With his assist and rebound numbers seeing increases to career highs, Kyrie averaged what was essentially a 24, 7, 5 line this past season. As far as efficiency goes, Kyrie was 13th in the NBA last in PER with a rating of 24.37 (league average is 15.00). That is elite efficiency for a truly elite player. The 2019-2020 season needs to be the year that Kyrie silences the haters and proves that not only can he win the big game, but also that there is a reason he is in the 1-name category with LeBron, Kobe, Harden, and Giannis to name a few.

Kyrie is currently at +3300 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Kyrie will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
