We have reached the top-15 of potential MVP candidates leading up to the NBA season! This time on our countdown, we venture back to Utah for our the backcourt superstar of the Jazz.
#15 Donovan Mitchell
Guard, Utah Jazz
Donovan Mitchell has been outstanding so far in his young career. Entering his third season this year, Mitchell will look to improve his numbers once again just like he did last year compared to his rookie year. Even though Mitchell attempted more shots last year than his rookie year, his shooting numbers went up! His 3-point percentage increased along with his point total, assist total, and rebound total. With the increased shots taken per game, we would expect his field goal percentage to drop but in only dipped by .005 from 43.7% to 43.2%. Mitchell scored 46(!) points in a game last season showing that he can carry his team when they need him. A member of the All-Rookie team 2 years ago, Mitchell looks to make this All-Star team this year and is not stopping there. By playing for a great Utah Jazz team, Mitchell is in the spotlight quite often which helps his chances of being seen by MVP voters. One thing that Mitchell will need to improve this season is his efficiency. Last year, Mitchell had a PER of 17.26 (league average is 15.00) which placed him at 91st overall in the NBA.
Mitchell is currently at +4000 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Mitchell will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
