In the fifth entry of our countdown to the NBA season, we have reached the top 20 of MVP candidates! This time we will discuss a veteran player that finally was able to stay healthy enough to play more than 67 games in a season since the 2014-2015 season last year.
#20 Blake Griffin
Power Forward, Detroit Pistons
Blake Griffin was finally able to put together a full season in 2018-2019 as he turned back the clock and showed us why he was the #1 overall pick all the way back in 2009. Griffin is a 5x All-NBA player, 6x All-Star, Rookie of the Year winner, and former member of the All-Rookie team. In his first full season as a member of the Pistons last season, Griffin set a new career-high in points and added a 3-point shot to his arsenal. He showed us that he is no longer simply a former Slam Dunk Champion. Griffin averaged a career-high 2.5 buckets from distance this past season and was a problem for defenders across that NBA that were used to the slashing and high-flying version of Griffin. With a game-high 50(!) points scored last season, Griffin is showing that when healthy, he is a dominant force in the NBA. Griffin had a PER of 21.02 (league average is 15.00) this past season which placed him in a tie for 36th in the league. Another fully healthy year of basketball from Blake Griffin could lead to some MVP talks for the big man.
Griffin is currently at +10000 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Griffin will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
