In the third entry of our countdown to the NBA season, another MVP candidate takes the stage. Our trip around the NBA makes a stop at Disney World! Okay, not exactly Disney, but Orlando nonetheless.
#22 Nikola Vucevic
Center, Orlando Magic
Nikola Vucevic has only 1 All-Star appearance to his name and that was this past season. Vucevic has been overlooked by the NBA throughout his entire 8-year career and finally received some recognition last season. A walking double-double machine, Vucevic has averaged 16.8 points and 10.7 rebounds since becoming the Magics starting Center in 2012. Last year was a career year for Vucevic as he averaged career highs in points, blocks, assists, rebounds, and field goal percentage. Also for the first time in his career, Vucevic played in more than 78 games and started every game that he appeared in. The problem for Vucevic is the market that he plays in, Orlando, does not allow him to showcase his talents to a wide audience. The Magic are one of the least inspiring teams in the NBA and therefore are rarely, if ever, on national television. Regardless of the audience he plays in front of, Vucevic dominates the NBA with his talents. Vucevic was 9th in the NBA in PER last season with a rating of 25.53 (league average is 15.00), just behind an 8th place LeBron James. If Vucevic wants to win the MVP award this season, the Magic will have to shock the league and become one of the better teams.
Vucevic is currently at +10000 (Bovada) to win the NBA MVP award. Do you think Vucevic will win the MVP? Let me know in the comments below!
