Sunday Night Football: Week 4 Preview

Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints

Mercedes-Benz Superdome

New Orleans, LA

Betting

Tonight’s game has the Cowboys as the Moneyline favorite (-150) and the spread is set to -3.0 in favor of Dallas (-105 Cowboys, -115 Saints). With the total set at 48 (-115), a decent scoring game is on the docket for us tonight. Despite what some experts say about this new look Saints team, I am still on the Cowboys for tonight’s game. I locked in Dallas -3.0 (-110) early in the week for 1 unit and then doubled down for 2 units when the spread of -3.0 went to +105.

Injuries

For Dallas, starting receiver Michael Gallup and starting D-lineman Antwaun Woods are both out for tonight’s game. Also out is backup D-lineman Tyrone Crawford which means the depth will be hurting for Dallas up front on defense.

Obviously the big one is that Drew Brees is out with his thumb injury still. Apart from that, starting receiver Tre’Quan Smith is out but the rest of the team seems healthy.

Saints Offense vs. Cowboys Defense

In their first full game with Brees last week, the Saints rallied behind Teddy Bridgewater to earn a victory over the Seahawks. Surprisingly, Taysom Hill saw his role decline without Brees at QB but I suspect that to change this week against a better team in Dallas. Alvin Kamara rarely left the field last week which is a testament to the fact that the Saints want to surround Bridgewater with his best options at all times. The Brees-less Saints only had 252 yards of offense with Kamara accounting for 161 of those yards. If the Saints want to win tonight, they will need to get others, specifically Michael Thomas, more involved in the offense.

This Cowboys defense has lucked into the easiest schedule possible to start a season. They first faced Eli Manning (now benched), then Case Keenum (now benched), then the Dolphins, and now they get the Saints without Drew Brees. But, the Cowboys defense has not been overly impressive. Manning and fellow Giants, Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram actually shredded the Cowboys defense but the Dallas offense bailed them out. Keenum and the rest of the Washington passing attack looked competent, which, isn’t a ringing endorsement. Lastly, don’t let the scoreboard fool you; the Dolphins had a lot of good drives that ended in turnovers in the red zone last week. This Cowboys defense is not all that good and they’ve been slightly exposed by bad teams. When a good team gets a hold of them, watch out.

Cowboys Offense vs. Saints Defense

This Cowboys offense is one the best in the entire NFL. They average over 485 yards a game and they can beat teams through the air with Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, or on the ground with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. Dallas is a force on offense as they are averaging over 32 points a game. This Saints matchup bodes well for them this week as the Saints are allowing over 450 yards a game and over 27 points. If Dallas can stick to what has worked so far this season, they will be fine tonight.

The Saints defense is not… good. As I previously stated, the allow an abundance of points and yards to their opposition. Starting safeties Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams have each forced a turnover but not much else is shining for the defense. The best thing for the Saints to do is utilize the run game with Kamara and Latavius Murray in order to keep the ball out of the Cowboys hands.

Prediction:

Cowboys: 27

Saints: 21

Guaranteed Touchdown Scorer: Amari Cooper

Dart Throw Touchdown Scorer: Taysom Hill

Conclusion

This should be a fun game between NFC playoff hopefuls if the Saints can keep up with the Cowboys scoring pace. Who do you think will win tonight? Let me know in the comments below!
