This is live a write up of WWE Clash of Champions 2019 that will go live after the show is over. I’ll be comparing my predictions, (that are found here, to what the final result of each match ends up being.

Cruiserweight Championship Match

My Prediction: Gulak retains via pinfall

As always, the cruiserweights are exciting and impressive but are forced to wrestle on the preshow. Hopefully, this division gets more attention now that 205 Live is no more and the wrestlers get to be on NXT. Gulak playing the desperate heel that works methodically while his opponents take the big chances so they can become champion is just what this division needs. After Humberto hits a top rope maneuver on Lince, Gulak sneaks in to steal the pinfall! Great heel champion for the cruiserweights.

Result: Gulak retains via pinfall

Grade: B, solid match, hope these guys get a chance to shine on NXT

United States Championship Match

My prediction: Alexander wins via pinfall to become the new US Champion

I was not expecting this match to be on the preshow. The duo now has a set match timer of about 10 minutes because the preshow ends and the main show starts. Hopefully, WWE lets them go over the time limit and start the main show mid-match to give Alexander a huge audience to show what he can do in the ring. No Gallows and Anderson at ringside is a great sign for Alexander. WOW, Alexander is off to a hot start as he nearly steals a victory TWICE within the opening minute. Just realized Alexander is in his hometown… he’s going to lose now, isn’t he? Styles hits a Styles Clash on the outside and pulls Alexander up from the head to stop the pin himself so he can dish out more pain. This is great heel work, we’ll see if it costs him. The match pace has slowed down considerably since Styles took advantage. A Phenomenal Forearm and Styles Clash seals it for Styles to retain. After the bell, The OC and Styles continue the beat down of Alexander to prove just how dastardly they are.

Result: AJ Styles retains via pinfall

Grade: B-, advances the story but really hoped Alexander could have gotten his moment

Main Card

WWE Raw Tag Team Championship Match

Prediction: Ziggler and Roode win via pinfall after Rollins costs Strowman, angering the monster

I correctly predicted this match would open the main card which means I have a strong feeling that my prediction of a title change here will come true. Roode and Ziggler are trying to outsmart Strowman but he’s simply too much for the competitors. Rollins now in the match and getting worked over pretty good by the heels, he’ll probably stay as the legal man before making a hot tag to Strowman. Rollins kicks out of a Famouser by Ziggler but is still getting dominated by a strong team effort by the heels. A blockbuster creates some separation for Rollins but he’s unable to get to Strowman for the tag. Falcon Arrow by Rollins now and it allows him to make the tag to Strowman who starts doing his running shoulder tackles. Ziggler rakes the eyes to prevent a Running Powerslam and Roode makes the blind tag. Rollins tags in for Strowman and gets distracted by Ziggler before he can hit The Stomp. Strowman hits Roode into Rollins who crashes into the turnbuckle. Roode hits the Glorious DDT on Rollins as Strowman stubbles to the outside thanks to Ziggler. 1-2-3, Roode pins Rollins. Strowman storms off to the backstage area after the match and gives a backstage interview stating that Rollins cost them the match and he’s going to beat him for the Universal Championship later tonight.

Result: Ziggler and Roode win via pinfall after Strowman hits Roode into Rollins resulting in Rollins getting pinned

Grade: C+, too predictable

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match

Prediction: Bayley wins via pinfall but cheats to get there

Charlotte big boot gets a 2-count right at the bell! Bayley rolls outside to recover. Charlotte is dominating early on, Bayley will probably need to do something heelish soon. Bayley being thrown into the barricades by Charlotte, Bayley is looking like an underdog right now. Charlotte has injured the knee of Bayley and is looking like she will be the new champion soon. NOT SO FAST. Bayley removed the turnbuckle pad and toe dragged Charlotte into the exposed turnbuckle to steal the pinfall! Bayley grabs her title and sprints to the back after the match.

Result: Bayley wins via pinfall after she cheats by removing the turnbuckle pad

Grade: A+, excellent storytelling

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match

Prediction: New Day wins in convincing fashion

The Revival looks to become the first team to hold the NXT, Raw, and Smackdown tag titles at some point in their career. An injured Woods starts the match and looks good but makes the tag to Big E who starts walloping Wilder. Wilder hits a big clothesline on the apron that sends Big E to the floor, his head was dangerously close to hitting the steel steps. Dawson tags in and out as he and Wilder work on Big E as Woods mends his injured knee after Dawson took him out. This match is clearly in the hands of The Revival. Big E creates separation but has no one to tag, as he wards off Dawson with a belly to belly suplex. Woods reemerges on the apron and Big E makes the tag. Woods gets some offense in and goes for a pin but gets his injured knee stomped by Wilder. Now on the outside, a Shatter Machine is dished out to Big E, leaving Woods all alone. Now a Shatter Machine to Woods but they do not go for the pinfall. The Revival remove the brace from Woods and forces him to tap out to a submission move on his knee. After the match, The Revival cut a heel promo about how the fans should be happy that “old school” tag team wrestling is back.

Result: The Revival win via submission

Grade: B, a good match here and I’m interested to see what happens with the New Day

Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

Prediction: Bliss and Cross retain via pinfall, Sonya eats the pin

Nikki and Mandy begin the match and Nikki gets payback for Mandy taunting her earlier. Sonya and Alexa each tag in but Sonya turns around and tags in Mandy. Alexa is performing like a great face would, taking care of the cocky Mandy Rose. The 24/7 champion R-Truth interrupts the match as the entire lower-mid card chases them around the ring. Sonya tags in after the 24/7 shenanigans are gone and overpowers Alexa immediately. Mandy tags back in as they double team Alexa. Sonya back in again, and then Mandy. Great teamwork by Fire and Desire so far in this match. Alexa and Mandy knock each other out, allowing Nikki to get the hot tag as Sonya joins her in the ring. Sonya kicks out of a flying crossbody by Nikki and Alexa makes the tag. Sonya tags in Mandy and they get a great tag team move on the champs before Nikki makes a great save on the pinfall. Nikki tags in herself and hits the Crossbreaker on Mandy for the pinfall.

Result: Bliss and Cross retain via pinfall, Mandy eats the pin

Grade: A-, the crowd made this match super fun as they got behind Nikki in a big way

Intercontinental Championship Match

Prediction: Nakamura wins via DQ

Zayn comes out in a neck brace and cuts on a promo on the fans and the Undertaker. Even “through the pain” Zayn is able to hype up Nakamura while Miz watches on from the ring. Looks like Zayn will be joining commentary/be a manager for this match and I fully expect him to get involved in one way or another. Zayn stole a microphone and is trash talking Miz during the match. They cut Zayn’s mic so he can no longer talk down to Miz. Miz is now taking it to Nakamura because he’s not distracted. Miz grabbed the mic from Zayn and launched it at the Titantron to a huge pop from the crowd. Unfortunately for Miz, this allowed Nakamura to get the upper hand. Miz got a reversal in and injured the knee of Nakamura, now he has the advantage as he looks to become a 9-time Intercontinental Champion. Nakamura is able to lock in an armbar and now Miz is favoring the left arm. It Kicks for the Miz but he’s unable to capitalize as Nakamura hits a facebuster. Miz dodges the Kinshasa and locks in a figure four! Nakamura is able to crawl to the ropes for the break. Zayn distracts Miz allowing Nakamura to hit a Kinshasa but Miz kicks out! Skull Crushing Finale! Zayn distracts the referee so Miz is unable to obtain the title. Miz goes after Zayn but is caught by Nakamura. One Kinshasa later, Nakamura retains.

Result: Nakamura retains via pinfall

Grade: A-, the crowd is alive and the story of Zayn helping Nakamura continues

Raw Women’s Championship Match

Prediction: Banks wins via submission after Becky taps to the Bank Statement

Becky starts off hot and takes control early on. Sahsa goes for the Bank Statement but gets reversed into an arm breaker. Sasha rolls out of the ring and taunts the crowd before Becky baseball slides into her. Becky is dominating but Sasha trips her up on the top rope. Sasha has control of Becky and hits a Meteora for a 2-count. Becky tries to rally but Sasha knocks her back down for another 2-count. Becky fights back but Sasha is not budging. Sasha gloats on the top rope before going for a dive but is met by a Becky standing dropkick. Both women are down. Becky is firing up as she hits some clotheslines and a suplex. Becky goes for a clothesline again but is CAUGHT INTO A BANK STATEMENT! Becky powers out into a Becksploder and goes up top for a leg drop and 2-count. The Bank Statement got the crowd up on their feet in a big way. Becky puts Sasha on the top rope but she fights her off and hits another Meteora! A very close 2-count, Sasha almost won right there. Sasha goes for the Bank Statement but BECKY REVERSES INTO THE DIS-ARM-HER! Sasha is able to put her foot on the rope to break the submission. Becky hits a missile dropkick from the top rope for a 2-count. This match can go either way. Sasha hits two backstabbers and LOCKS IN THE BANK STATEMENT IN THE CENTER OF THE RING! Becky is able to roll Sasha on her back thus forcing the break. Sasha goes to the outside and grabs a chair and uses it on Becky as the ref was distracted. Shining wizard but Becky kicks at 2! Becky hits the referee with the chair knocking him out… Now Becky uses the chair on Sasha but Sasha runs away into the crowd. The fight is now in the WWE universe. Becky locks in the Dis-Arm-Her around a handrail. Sasha gets away but now they’re in the concession area. Becky drags Sasha back into the crowd area as the head back to the ring. Back at ringside, Sasha spears Becky into the barricade as the referee has been down for at least 5 minutes. It is just announced that Becky retains her title via DQ for hitting the referee. Becky now lays in the chair shots on Sasha and locks in the Dis-Arm-Her through the chair. Officials have to come and pull Becky away.

Result: Sasha wins via DQ, but Becky retains her championship

Grade: B+, what was the point of having Sasha return if she was going to lose?

WWE Championship Match

Prediction: Kofi wins via pinfall after a Trouble in Paradise

After seeing The Revival win earlier in the night, I’m worried that Kofi will lose his title here and have to attempt to win it back at Hell in a Cell next month. Just like every Orton match, I expect this one to be slow-paced. Orton overpowers Kofi early with a shoulder tackle but lets him get back up. A very slow match as they are just exchanging headlocks with each other. Kofi picks up the pace with some running strikes but Orton rolls out of the ring and walks up the ramp. Orton is the king of wrestling slow matches. Kofi starts hitting Orton with some chops but Orton gets him with a thumb to the eye. Now in command, Orton lays in some strikes of his own. Orton, stunning everyone, runs the ropes and hits Kofi off of the apron and into the barricade. Now at ringside, Orton is throwing Kofi around. Kofi is taking punishment as he hits the announce tables and the barricades. Orton rolls Kofi into the ring for some pinning attempts but Kofi kicks out multiple times. Orton is trying to become a 14-time WWE Champion but Kofi won’t back down. Kofi hits Orton in the shoulder to get an advantage. Orton plays possum to a shoulder injury and throws Kofi into the ring post. Back outside the ring, Orton throws Kofi into the steel steps before rolling him back into the ring for a 2-count. Both men are down after Kofi hits a clothesline. Kofi gets up first and hits another strike on Orton. Kofi hits a Boom Drop on Orton and starts to set up a Trouble in Paradise but Orton counters into a backbreaker for a 2-count. After sending Orton to the outside, Kofi hits a dive on him. Back into the ring, Kofi goes for a crossbody BUT ORTON ROLLS THROUGH FOR A 2-COUNT! Back on their feet, Orton hits a dropkick for another 2-count. Both men on their feet again and Orton once again rakes the eyes. Kofi crawls back to his feet and hits an SOS for a 2-count. Kofi goes to the top rope but Orton takes his legs out from underneath him. Orton goes for a top rope superplex but Kofi knocks him down. Orton climbs up again, but Kofi slips under him. Orton quickly gets down and hits a powerslam for a 2-count. Now caught in the ropes, Orton hits Kofi with the “Vintage Orton” DDT. Orton starts to tune up the band as he sets up for an RKO but Kofi rolls Orton up for a 2-count. Both men are slowly moving in the ring and RKO OUT OF NOWHERE! Kofi gets his foot on the rope to break the pinfall. That was nearly the match right there. Orton goes for The Punt but whiffs and Kofi hits the Trouble in Paradise! 1-2-3 Kofi retains the WWE Championship!

Result: Kofi wins via pinfall after a Trouble in Paradise

Grade: B, a rather boring match but Orton trying to go for The Punt likely sets up a match at Hell in a Cell

Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan in a No DQ Match

Prediction: Reigns wins via pinfall after a spear through a table

I’ll be completely honest, I have zero interest in this match. Reigns is going to win because he is Roman Reigns and WWE loves him. I just hope that something surprising happens to advance this story or it simply ends here tonight. When I say surprising, I mean maybe The Fiend makes an appearance… or Luke Harper. Before the bell, Reigns attacks Rowan. Now officially underway, Rowan levels Reigns before dumping him to the outside. Rowan sends Reigns into the announce table and the barricade multiple times. Rowan goes for a shoulder tackle to Reigns against the steps but Regins moves. Reigns grabs a kendo stick but Rowan uses the steel steps to send Reigns into the crowd. Now in the crowd, Rowan uses a trashcan to take down Reigns. Regins fights back and sends Rowan stumbling back to ringside. A Driveby by Reigns knocks downs Rowan and allows Reigns to set up a table. Rowan hits a crossbody on Reigns and rolls him back into the ring. Rowan is in complete control as this match slows down. Reigns kicks out at 2 after a Rowan mid-rope dive. Reigns starts to fight back but Rowan hits a sidewalk slam for a 2-count. The crowd is not interested in this match at all at this point. Rowan pulls Reigns out of the ring and throws Reigns into the ring post. Rowan has exposed part of the ring by removing the padding and puts Reigns into it face first. Reigns kicks out again at 2. Rowan brings the steel steps into the ring but before he can use them, Reigns hits him with a Samoan Drop. Reigns now uses the steel steps and hits a Superman Punch afterwards for a 2-count. Reigns goes for a Superman Punch at ringside but Rowan catches him and powerbombs him through the announce table. Rowan rolls Reigns back into the ring but Reigns kicks out of the pinfall attempt at 2. The 2 fight back to the outside and into the crowd. Rowan hits the Iron Claw on Reigns through a table near the audio area by the ramp. Roman fireman carries Reigns onto the entrance ramp and grabs the camera jib like last Monday. Reigns uses a staff(?) that he found (why was it on the entrance ramp?) to counter and use the camera jib for himself. Reigns lands a Superman Punch and goes for a spear running down the ramp BUT LUKE HARPER RETURNS AND HITS HIM WITH A BIG BOOT. LUKE HARPER HITS A DISCUS CLOTHESLINE AND ROWAN AN IRON CLAW, 1-2-3 ROWAN WINS!

Result: Rowan wins via pinfall after a returning Luke Harper assists

Grade: C+, please make Luke Harper an absolute monster

Universal Championship Match

Prediction: Rollins wins via pinfall with The Stomp

So we just saw a big return in the last match, there’s no way Brock Lesnar returns here right? You see, I started the last match live write up like this… maybe lightning will strike twice. The bell rings and Strowman dominates Rollins! Strowman goes for the Running Powerslam but Rollins takes out the knee. Rollins knocks him down with 3 superkicks and goes the frog splash but Strowman kicks out at 1. Rollins goes for The Stomp but Strowman catches him and plants him with a slam. Strowman is back in control and simply overpowering Rollins. Strowman goes for a spear in the corner but Rollins sidesteps him and lets him run shoulder-first into the ring post. Rollins hits a bunch of knees to the head of Strowman but gets caught and planted once again after he went for 1 too many. On the outside of the ring now, Strowman hits 2 running shoulder tackles on Rollins before sending him back into the ring. But, Rollins rolls back out of the ring. Strowman goes for another shoulder tackle but gets sidesteps and Strowman goes into the announce table. Rollins then goes back into the ring and hits 2 suicide dives on Strowman. Rollins goes for a third but gets caught. Rollins breaks away and superkicks Strowman into the Spanish announce table. Rollins goes to the top rope for a table dive but Strowman runs up the steps and knocks Rollins down. STROWMAN HITS A TOP ROPE SPLASH! HE WEIGHS OVER 350LBS! ROLLINS KICKS OUT AT 2! Strowman goes for a Running Powerslam but Rollins locks in a sleeper hold. Strowman powers out AND ROLLINS HITS THE STOMP! STROWMAN KICKS OUT AT 1! ROLLINS HITS ANOTHER STOMP! STROWMAN KICKS OUT AGAIN! A THIRD STOMP… STROWMAN KICKS OUT AGAIN! What does Rollins have to do to put Strowman away? Rollins goes for a 4th Stomp but gets caught, Strowmans knee gives out and ROLLINS HITS THE PEDIGREE! ROLLINS HITS ANOTHER STOMP! 1-2-3 Rollins retains!

Result: Rollins wins via pinfall with The Stomp

Grade: A, this was more exciting than it had any right to be

Grade: A+++++++, The Fiend is going to become Champion and I am ready!

This was a really fun PPV and we saw plenty of storyline development. There were some dud matches but that will always happen. Thankfully, the good stuff was REALLY good and allowed for an entertaining event.

Overall Grade: A-

Final Predictions Tally: 7/11 if we count Nakamura retaining via pinfall instead of DQ
