NCAA Week 3 Preview

Week 3 is upon us and here are the matchups in the Top 25 to watch this weekend.

#6 Ohio State at Indiana

There is no question that Ohio State is a powerhouse but what we need to watch is Indiana here. Indiana is scoring 43 points a game this season while putting up over 500 yards of total offense. They also are only allowing 257 yards per game on the defensive side of the ball. All of which are in the same neighborhood as Ohio State. Do not overthink this, Ohio State will win this ball game but it might be closer than you think. As of writing, Ohio State is -16 on the spread at Bovada.

#21 Maryland at Temple

Oh boy, this game is going to be fast-paced and feature A LOT of scoring. Maryland is coming off a blowout victory over the previous #21 ranked team, Syracuse, in which the Terps won 63-20. Meanwhile, Temple has not played a game since their August 31st victory over a bad Bucknell team. A game in which the Owls scored 56 points and had 695(!) total yards. When these 2 teams clash on Saturday, it should be both schools’ closest game of the season. Expect a high scoring affair with Maryland coming out on top. As of writing, Maryland is -8 on the spread at Bovada.

#19 Iowa vs Iowa State

The defense of the Hawkeyes has been steller this season allowing only 185 yards per game. They held a Rutgers team that dropped 48 points on UMass Week 1 to a whopping… 0 points last week. In Week 1 the Hawkeyes opponent, Miami (OH), was held to 14 points but they scored 48 against Tennessee Tech this past weekend. Point being, Iowa has shown the ability to stop rather weak teams with ease. The problem this week? Iowa State is better than both Rutgers and Miami (OH). Iowa State is well-rested, having not played since opening weekend in a Triple-OT battle with UNI. A game in which they doubled up the UNI in yardage but struggled to find the endzone. Watch out for Iowa State to test the strength of this Iowa team by featuring senior WR Deshaunte Jones in a battle for state bragging rights. As of writing, Iowa is -3 on the spread at Bovada.

#8 Auburn vs. Kent State

Take the over on Auburn points and spread, especially for 1H totals. As of writing, Auburn is -35.5 on the spread at Bovada.

#9 Florida at Kentucky

Even after a 45-0 beating against a bad UTM, I am not sold on this Florida offense. They looked bad and somehow defeated Miami in Week 1. They also needed to show that they could completely manhandle a bad team in Week 2, which they did not. Regardless of what the scoreboard states, Florida is a strong team at this point in time. Kentucky, on the other hand, gives away yards like they’re Christmas presents. Yet, surprisingly, they have put up even more yards themselves! If Kentucky can force some turnovers, which Florida can be prone to, this game will be close. As of writing, Florida is -7.5 on the spread at Bovada.

#16 Texas A&M vs Lamar

What did I say about the Auburn game? It applies here as well.

#4 LSU vs Northwestern State

How is this even allowed? Repeat Auburn and Texas A&M for this game too.

#25 Virginia vs Florida State

Florida State has shown that they can hang with teams so far this season and Blackman is the real deal. The problem? Their defense. Perkins of UVA needs to dominate this game so that the stingy defense of UVA can go to work. Virginia should win, but it may be closer than we think because of the Florida State offense. As of writing, Virginia is -7.5 on the spread at Bovada.

#5 Oklahoma at UCLA

Another game that will be a blowout. UCLA is just downright bad at football this year. Do the same for this game as you would in the others listed. As of writing, Oklahoma is -24 on the spread at Bovada.

Who are you watching this weekend?

Let me know some other games that have your attention for Week 3 of college football!
